RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT WILL REVIVE SPORTS FACILITIES AT CIVIC CENTER SAYS GOVERNOR WIKE
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has announced that the State government will revive all the sports facilities at the Port Harcourt Civic Centre in its bid to promote sports.
Speaking at the Government House, Port Harcourt when the National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Honour Sirawoo and the SWAN National Executive paid him a courtesy call, Governor Wike said that the sports facilities will be ready by December this year.
He said: "By the time we restore the Civic Centre, it will engage youths meaningfully in sports and solve some of the social and security challenges we have ".
The governor said that the restoration of the facilities of the Civic Centre is already in progress, with the Indoor sports hall part of the first phase.
He thanked God that the SWAN Presidency was coming to Rivers State for the first time in 52 years when he is the governor of the state.
Governor Wike called on the membership of SWAN to cooperate with Mr Honour Sirawoo to move the state forward.
"We must not allow you to fail as SWAN President because you are our son. So we will give you the necessary support ", the governor told the SWAN National President.
He announced the donation of a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser and Toyota Hilux to the SWAN National President for his official use.
In his remarks, National President of SWAN, Mr Honour Sirawoo praised Governor Wike for the support he gave him during the electioneering process.
He said SWAN under his leadership will enthrone professionalism to ensure that quacks are weeded out of the system.
