TRIBUNAL UPHOLDS THE ELECTION OF KELECHI NWOGU AS MEMBER OF RIVERS STATE ASSEMBLY
The Rivers State House of Assembly Tribunal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Hon Kelechi Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the member, representing Omuma State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly .
The Petition was filed by Leo Anyanwu of APC who was defeated during the last rerun by Kelechi Nwogu of the PDP.
In a judgment delivered by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Ali Garba stated that Kelechi Nwogu was elected by majority of valid votes cast.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition against Mr Nwogu on the premise that the Petitioner failed to file for pre-hearing conference.
According to the Tribunal, the petition was frivolous and incompetent as it was not properly before the court.
Justice Ali Garba declared that as a result of the defects of the petition, the Tribunal lacked the jurisdiction to entertain.
Supporters of Kelechi Nwogu at the Tribunal broke into celebration. It was the same in his constituency in Omuma as youths and women group took to the streets to celebrate the Tribunal victory.
In an interview, Mr Kelechi Nwogu, assured his constituents that he will continue to represent them in a way that will attract development.
